What are cookies?

Technically speaking, cookies are small text files stored on your computer, tablet or mobile phone. Cookies are stored on your device.

First-party cookies and third-party cookies

First party cookies are directly related to the website you visit. First party cookies are often used for essential website functions and personalised experiences.

Third party cookies are not directly related to the website you visit. Third party cookies come from external domains. Third party cookies are often used for advertising and tracking purposes.

Technically, there is no difference between first- and third-party cookies. The distinction is made in the context of a visit and who creates the cookie.

Retention period of cookies

The retention period varies for each cookie. Some cookies are deleted immediately when you leave website, others are stored for longer. So-called session cookies are deleted immediately after a visit. Among other things, session cookies provide security and are necessary to create an account, for example. Permanent cookies (persistent cookies) are stored indefinitely and optimise the ease of use during a subsequent visit. Most cookies are stored for a certain period of time. Depending on the cookie, the retention period is reset each time you visit.

Functional cookies

Functional cookies (also called essential or necessary cookies) are essential for the website to function properly.

Analytical cookies

Analytical cookies are used to track visitor statistics. These cookies are essential to measure the performance of a website. Through web analytics, visitor behaviour can be mapped, allowing the website owner to optimise the website and therefore better serve the users' needs. Analytical cookies are valuable to the website owner.

Marketing cookies

Marketing cookies are essential for capturing the browsing behaviour of website visitors, both within a single domain and across different domains. They gather information about user activities, such as pages visited, which external website you came through and to facilitate targeted marketing efforts. These cookies are of great value in presenting personalised ads and refining marketing strategies based on individual user behaviour. Marketing cookies make it possible to measure which marketing campaigns are successful and which are less so.

Delete cookies

You can delete and/or disable cookies (and JavaScript) yourself. As a result, our website may no longer work properly or as easily. This is possible in every browser. How you do this depends on the browser you are using. Use a search engine to find instructions on how to do this for your device and browser.

What are web beacons?

Web beacons are also called "clear gifs" or "pixel tags". They are very small images that are usually invisible on websites, in documents or in e-mails. It is a small piece of HTML or JavaScript code. Web beacons communicate with a server and can tell, for example, whether an e-mail was opened, which link was clicked or which device was used. Web beacons are useful for analytics, tracking and personalisation. The information a web beacon communicates to a server varies from one developer to another.

TrucksNL uses cookies and web beacons

TrucksNL uses cookies on several domains. These are: trucks.nl, trucks.com, trucks.nl.be, blog.trucks.nl, products.trucks.nl, truckdelta.trucks.nl, trade.trucks.nl and account.trucks.nl.
Together referred to as TrucksNL domains. We use web beacons in our e-mail communications such as the newsletter.

For more information on how we guarantee your privacy, please refer to our privacy statement.

The use of these technologies by TrucksNL and third parties

With our approval, we may engage partners that use third-party cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies. These partners support us in managing our websites, apps, services and tools, resulting in an improved, faster and safer user experience for you.

Below you will find a description of the different cookies we use and why. You will then find another detailed overview of all the cookies we use on TrucksNL domains.

Functional cookies

If you want to save advertisements as favourites and log in with your details in the TrucksNL account, we set a cookie so that these actions are saved. An example of a session cookie is that if you fill in a contact form for one advertisement and want to do the same for a second one, you do not have to fill in all the information a second time.

The country code from which you visit TrucksNL and your chosen language is also stored in a cookie. This enables us to show you the website in your preferred language the next time you visit.

The cookie notification/banner itself also sets a cookie, because your cookie preferences do need to be saved. Otherwise, you would see the cookie message every time you visit the website and would have to indicate your preferences every time. That would not be convenient for you, so we save your choice.

Logged in / logged out TrucksNL account

When you log in to TrucksNL, this is stored with a cookie on your device. This ensures that when you return to the website, you are logged in again. Handy, because you can then quickly go to your favourites, for example, and your comment history is automatically updated.

Functional cookies are always set. This does not require legal consent.
