Historia
W 1928 r. firma DAF została założona w Eindhoven przez Huba van Doorne'a. W tamtym czasie litery D.A.F. oznaczały: Van Doorne's Aanhangwagen Fabriek. Do 1948 r. firma DAF produkowała głównie przyczepy i naczepy. W 1948 roku fabrykę opuściły pierwsze samochody ciężarowe, a nazwa firmy została zmieniona na Van Doorne's Automobiel Fabriek. Od 1957 r. firma DAF zaopatruje swoje ciężarówki we własne silniki wysokoprężne; wcześniej silniki pochodziły od takich firm jak Perkins i Hercules.
W latach 90-tych firma DAF stała się częścią firmy PACCAR. Oprócz DAF, PACCAR zarządza również amerykańskimi markami samochodów ciężarowych Kenworth i Peterbilt.
Zakres
Wśród europejskich kierowców firma DAF znana jest przede wszystkim z niezwykle przestronnej i ergonomicznie zaprojektowanej kabiny w modelu XF. Od momentu wprowadzenia w 1988 r. kabina Super Space Cab firmy DAF jest nieodzowną częścią międzynarodowego transportu europejskiego.
DAF posiada trzy serie ciężarówek: LF, CF i XF. Każda seria może być wykorzystana do innego celu.
LF jest najmniejszy i ma najkrótszy promień skrętu spośród wszystkich ciężarówek dostępnych na rynku. Dlatego LF nadaje się do transportu w miastach i do transportu towarów na średnich dystansach.
CF może być wykorzystywany do transportu regionalnego, krajowego i międzynarodowego (dystrybucja). Poza tym, może być używany na nierównym terenie.
Jak już wspomniano, XF ma największą kabinę, co sprawia, że szczególnie nadaje się do pokonywania długich dystansów i ciężkiego transportu.
W każdej serii można wybierać spośród różnych typów ciężarówek, takich jak: ciężarówki sztywne, ciężarówki z systemem kontenerowym, ciężarówki śmieciarki, ciężarówki z podwoziem kabinowym lub ciężarówki wywrotki.
