Mercedes Benz Atego
The Mercedes-Benz Atego is a light distribution truck par excellence. After its introduction in 1998, the Atego was also built for medium-heavy work for the first two years, until Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Axor as the new medium-heavy truck. Although the Atego is a distribution truck par excellence, there are many different configurations imaginable, making it a very versatile truck.
Applications
Besides the standard 4x2 axle configuration, the Atego is also available as a 4x4 or 6x2 chassis. An Atego is available as a tractor unit, but is by far the most frequently supplied as a rigid chassis. The lightest version of the Atego is a 6.5 tonne chassis, the heaviest an 18 tonne chassis. Between those 6.5 and 18 tonnes, many applications are possible for the Atego, in the most diverse sectors.
PTO
The application of PTO (Power Take Off), for example, makes it possible to use an Atego as a light tipper truck or as a mobile elevating work platform. Many fire brigades and rescue services around the world use the Atego as a 4x4 version to bring rescue personnel and equipment to difficult locations. Mercedes-Benz offers the Atego in four cab variants, making it suitable for many different tasks.
1. Standard day cab: used mainly for regional work.
2. Low-level sleeper cab: offers more space and the option of spending the night.
3. High sleeper cab: with 2 beds and considerably more living space.
4. DoKa: double cab or crew cab, offers space for 6 people.
Hybrid and electric Atego
The Atego Blue Tec Hybrid first saw the light of day in 2012, making it the first series-produced hybrid truck in Europe. Since the launch of the hybrid Atego, many of these trucks have been successfully deployed in cities and other densely populated areas around the world. With the arrival of the E-Actros, it seems only a matter of time before a fully electric Atego will also see the light of day.
Other popular truck models from Mercedes-Benz are the Actros and the Arocs
