Truck-mounted forklifts
History
A transportable forklift truck is also called a 'Kooiaap'. This name comes from the inventor Hessel Kooi. Kooi washed flower bulbs with his own company. The flower bulbs had to be loaded and unloaded on location, for which he often needed a forklift truck. But arranging a forklift truck on site took a lot of time. That is why he came up with the concept of the 'Kooiaap' truck.
Transportable forklift trucks are ideal when there are no forklift trucks on site. As a result, the driver is not dependent on the resources available at his unloading address.
The Moffett company from Ireland has taken over the Kooiaap. At first they were sold under the name Moffett-Cage, but when Moffett was taken over by Hiab, the Kooiaap was sold under the Moffett name.
Well-known brands of truck-mounted forklifts include Moffett and Kooiaap.
Operation
A transportable forklift truck can slide with its forks into the sleeves that are located in the body of a truck. This allows the transportable forklift to lift itself up behind the lorry. In this way it hangs behind the lorry. Thus it does not take up any loading space.
Difference with a forklift truck
A transportable forklift truck is more manoeuvrable and lighter than a forklift truck. This allows it to be used in places that are difficult to reach.
