Standard di emissione europeo
Lo standard europeo sulle emissioni è un'iniziativa europea che obbliga i produttori di automobili a limitare le emissioni dei motori. La classe di emissione determina la categoria di emissione di un veicolo. Più alta è la cifra, più pulito è il veicolo. Lo standard Euro 6 è stato lanciato nel gennaio 2014.
Zone ambientali Comuni
Un numero crescente di grandi città europee ha istituito zone ambientali in cui i veicoli diesel più inquinanti non possono circolare. Dal 1° gennaio 2022, solo gli autocarri con classe di emissione 6 potranno entrare nella zona ambientale. Se un camionista con un camion Euro 5 entra nella zona ambientale dopo il 31 dicembre 2021, rischia una multa.
EGR e SCR
Lo standard Euro 6 viene raggiunto principalmente grazie a sistemi come l'EGR (ricircolo dei gas di scarico) e l'SCR (riduzione catalitica selettiva). Tutti i moderni autocarri con motore diesel sono attualmente dotati di una o di entrambe queste tecnologie.
Il sistema EGR è una tecnologia in cui una parte dei gas di scarico viene reimmessa nella camera di combustione, riducendo così le emissioni residue di NOx (ossidi di azoto). Questo sistema è integrato nel motore.
Il più comune è il sistema SCR, facilmente riconoscibile dal serbatoio dell'AdBlue. L'AdBlue è una soluzione a base d'acqua utilizzata per convertire gran parte delle emissioni di NOx in azoto e vapore acqueo.
