New series
MAN has given the competing brands food for thought with the introduction of a completely new truck series in 2020. That is why the MAN flagship, the new TGX, has also been chosen as International Truck of the Year 2021.
History
MAN is one of the oldest European truck manufacturers. It started out as a manufacturer of machines and engines, then added truck production in 1915 through a partnership with the Swiss company Saurer.
Saurer has since been absorbed into the MAN Group, as have the German Büssing and the Austrian truck manufacturers ÖAF and Steyr. MAN is still very strongly represented in the UK truck market today through the acquisition of the English brand ERF.
Close cooperation with Rudolf Diesel made MAN the first truck brand to use diesel engines as standard in its trucks.
Applications
MAN trucks are mostly used in regular (international) transport. As a 4x2 tractor, MAN has many different cab variants. From a small day cab to the large XXL cab for long-haul transport.
Besides regular transport, MAN tractors are often used for construction transport. It is not for nothing that MAN is one of the larger producers of 4x4 and 6x4 tractors. These tractors are often equipped with a PTO, to operate a tipping trailer or a truck-mounted crane.
In heavy transport, MAN is simply indispensable. Where MAN used to deliver the V8 engine with 680 hp, they now do it with a 640 hp 6-cylinder engine. The Euro 6 engine with a capacity of 15.2 litres delivers enough torque to get the heaviest loads moving.
At TrucksNL, you will always find a wide selection of MAN tractors specially designed for heavy-duty transport. The most popular tractors in this segment are certainly those with the 8x4 axle configuration.
Other popular brands in the tractor category are: DAF, Scania, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz.
